Charlie Byrd, Rebekah Kendall, and Nick Nighswander will be inducted into the Morehead State Athletic Hall of Fame this fall.

Byrd, a football All-American cornerback and kick returner, Kendall, Morehead State soccer's all-time leading goal scorer, and Nighswander, a two-time All-OVC football offensive lineman, will be inducted on Friday, Oct. 20 and recognized during the Homecoming football game on Saturday, Oct. 21.

Conner, Johnson, Unger formally Inducted into Athletic Hall of Fame

Three former Eagles were formally inducted into the Morehead State Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday night. The 2016 class includes Paul Conner, Shawn Johnson, and Craig Unger.

Conner, one of the best offensive tackles to play for the Eagles, Johnson, the 1985 OVC Baseball Player of the Year, and Unger, a two-time Pioneer Football League Defensive Player of the Year, were also recognized on Saturday during Morehead State's Homecoming game against Pioneer Football League foe Marist.

Howard Murphy's No. 33 Jersey Officially Retired September 9th

Morehead State Athletic Hall of Fame member Howard Murphy's No. 33 football jersey was officially retired September 9th in a ceremony at the Morehead Conference Center.

The late Murphy was a standout tailback and defensive back for MSU from 1960-63. His wife Jennie and several of his family were on hand as his jersey plaque was unveiled. It is the 12th to adorn Jayne Stadium.

Former Morehead State star Kenneth Faried has signed a five-year contract extension with the National Basketball Association's Denver Nuggets. The deal is worth $60 million, according to Yahoo! Sports, ESPN and several other national media outlets.

Faried, a 6-foot-8 forward, most recently helped the United States capture a gold medal in the FIBA (International Basketball Federation) World Cup. The U.S.A., which won all nine of its contests, has now secured an automatic bid to the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Three former Eagles were formally inducted into the Morehead State Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday night (Oct. 3). The 2014 class includes men's basketball all-time leading scorer Ricky Minard, men's basketball career assist leader Marquis Sykes and football standout Gary Shirk.

The new Hall of Famers will also be recognized on Saturday during Morehead State's Homecoming game against Pioneer Football League foe Campbell. Kick-off from Jayne Stadium is set for 1 p.m. ET. The Eagles, who were idle last weekend, will be shooting for their first 3-2 start since 2008.

Morehead State Honors Rex Chaney at Retirement Dinner

Morehead State held a retirement dinner Friday night (Sept. 26) for Dr. Rex Chaney, who has been associated with the university since 1953. Chaney, who previously coached the Eagles in men's basketball and baseball, spent the past 38 years as the head men's golf coach at MSU.

Chaney was tabbed as the Ohio Valley Conference Men's Golf Coach of the Year after Morehead State captured league championships in 1977, 1981, 1993 and 1999. He also directed the Eagles to six other top-three finishes at the annual league tournament.

Athletic Hall Of Fame Inductees Announced

Three former All-Ohio Valley Conference student-athletes will be inducted into the Morehead State Athletics Hall of Fame this fall. The 2014 class includes men's basketball all-time leading scorer Ricky Minard, men's basketball career assist leader Marquis Sykes, and one of the most accomplished tight ends in football program history, Gary Shirk.

This year's trio will be inducted during a banquet on Oct. 3 and recognized during the Homecoming football game on Oct. 4.

Riddle Inducted Into Hall Of Fame

Amber Riddle, who set several Morehead State career records, was inducted into the Kentucky Prep Softball Hall of Fame in a ceremony over the weekend. She played first base for the Eagles from 2010-13 after a standout career at nearby Rowan County High School.

The right-handed hitting Riddle owns Morehead State's all-time standards for home runs (36), runs batted in (148), walks (109) and on-base percentage (.435). She also ranks among the school's all-time leaders in games played, runs scored, hits, total bases and slugging percentage.

Dr. Rex Chaney, who has been associated with Morehead State since 1953, is retiring from the university. Chaney, who previously coached the Eagles in men's basketball and baseball, has spent the past 38 years as MSU's head men's golf coach.

"We are incredibly grateful to Rex and his family for all of their contributions to Morehead State," Director of Athletics Brian Hutchinson said. "Rex is already a Hall of Famer and will always be an Eagle. He has meant so much to thousands of people over the years."
