National issues bringing local voters to the polls in Eastern KY

Many voters in Rowan County said they are keeping national issues in mind today as they vote for state offices like governor and secretary of state, along with local officials like circuit court judge.

Tyler Spradlin is a registered Democrat. He said he feels like rights are being taken away across the country, so he stepped up to do his civic duty.

“Mostly abortion, and just like, women’s rights,” he said. “I feel like there’s a huge attack on democracy overall, so I just wanted to come out and do my part to help protect the nation.”

Wilma Lewis is a Republican. She said many national issues are also Kentucky’s concerns.

“We’re talking Kentucky but it’s all the same. Borders, economy,” she said. “Our country, we’re not strong, it’s a mess and it’s getting worse.”

Polling locations across the county will remain open until 6pm, including the two voting centers at the Morehead Conference Center and Carl Perkins Center. WMKY will have results from the general election tomorrow morning.
