Congressman Hal Rogers on GOP Split

Republican Congressman Hal Rogers says he agrees with House Speaker John Boehner that certain conservative political groups have tried to push GOP members of Congress into taking positions on issues most Americans don’t support. The Pulaski County lawmaker is chairman of the House Appropriations Committee. Rogers discussed the divide Sunday on C-Span’s Newsmakers program.

He says the organizations are trying to raise money and influence younger members of the party. They opposed last week’s bi-partisan budget deal, claims Rogers, before they knew the particulars of the plan…

Rogers says his committee will not attempt to defund the Affordable Care Act when it meets to parcel out money from the budget bill to various federal agencies. He says it’s not the place of the Appropriations panel to legislate.
