Animal Shelter Near Completion

Rowan County Judge-Executive Jim Nickell says that work on the county’s new animal shelter located on KY 519 is down to its final phase.

Outside of finishing the surfacing on the parking lot and going through the building’s “punch list,” the 250-thousand dollar facility is almost ready to go.

Nickell admits he’s anxious to get the new shelter open and adds that he’s not the only one.

“Judge Foxworthy over in Fleming County, we had a meeting down at the department of local government last week and he asked me when we were going to be able to start receiving their animals and I said, ‘very, very shortly judge,’ so hopefully in the next 10 to 15 days we’ll be complete.” –Jim Nickell

In addition to housing Rowan County’s stray dogs and cats, the new animal shelter will also be paid to house those from neighboring counties, such as Bath and Fleming.

Rowan County received a 150-thousand dollar grant from the Kentucky Department of Agriculture to help with the building of the new animal shelter.
