The Sinking of the USS Indianapolis and the Atomic Bomb: The Price Paid for Liberty (10:00am)
Four survivors of the Indianapolis share unforgettable and heartbreaking memories about the tragic sinking of their battle tested ship and their struggle to survive against nearly impossible odds. We hear their story of tragedy, survival, heroism and redemption — all part of the enormous cost of liberty.
Ringing of Twenty-One Bells (11:00am)
Morehead State Public Radio encourages citizens to participate in “Ringing of Twenty-One Bells” on Veteran’s Day. At exactly 11:00am on Wednesday, November 11th, citizens, schools, businesses, churches, organizations, and public agencies are asked to slowly ring a bell twenty-one times in honor of the men and women who have served, and those who continue to serve our nation. WMKY at 90.3FM will participate by “ringing a bell” twenty-one times at 11:00am (eastern time), on Wed., Nov. 11.
After They’ve Served (11:06am)
No matter how they served or where or when, for veterans, returning to civilian life is a big transition. “After They’ve Served” shares stories from veterans in this special program from With Good Reason.
Conversations with Veterans (12:00pm)
There are 19 million veterans in the U.S. who have served in the armed forces. For many, the military gave them a sense of shared purpose, a strong connection to their comrades. But that community often disappears when they get out of the service, leaving many feeling alone, or misunderstood. On top of that, many veterans suffer with lingering health challenges, both visible and invisible. We hear stories about one woman’s struggle to get help for her PTSD, how Shakespeare is helping veterans transition back to civilian life, and some of the health effects that come with combat.
The Story: Veterans Day Special (1:00pm)
This immersive Veterans Day one hour special is narrated by Alec Baldwin and uncovers the backstories of six veterans who have built companies, products and brands that have changed the way we live. Listeners are invited to walk a mile in their shoes, and their identity is a secret until the climax. Veterans featured include Bob Ross, Pauline Cushman, Robin Quivers, Fred Smith, Virginia Hall, and Phil Knight.
