Lewis County Plans Road Projects

Approval has been given to accept bids for two asphalt projects in Lewis County.

Judge-Executive Todd Ruckel said the county was recently awarded $250,000 from the Kentucky Department of Transportation in order to complete blacktopping projects within the county. This money will be added to the $320,000 the county was awarded in the fall.

“We have been able to do a lot of black topping,” Ruckel said. “We will continue to do these projects.”

Ruckel said the fiscal court approved advertising for bids to blacktop roads in the Black Oak area and for binders for several gravel roads throughout the county. He did not specify which gravel roads.

Right now, there are 150 miles of gravel roads and 260 miles of blacktopped roads in Lewis County, according to Ruckel. He said he hopes to see that change.

“I have a plan to lower the amount of gravel roads in this county in the next four years,” Ruckel said. “It will cut down on our gravel costs if we can get these roads blacktopped.”

Ruckel said the $250,000 will be used as funding for the Black Oak area, while the remainder of the money will be used for the gravel roads.

A special fiscal court meeting will be held on March 27 in order to open bids for the projects.
